Stories and S'mores – Squam Lakes Association February 28th

Join Lakes Region Conservation Corps members Nikka and Kaela for a night of stories and s’mores at the Squam Lakes Association! Gather around a campfire, roast some marshmallows, and assemble your s’mores as we read fun nature-themed children’s stories throughout the hour. Bring your favorite blanket, a lawn chair, and yourself! Bringing personal s’mores ingredients is encouraged if your child has allergies. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Registration is required. Space is limited to 10 people.

Belknap Lunchbreak Family Hike – Squam Lakes Association March 2nd

Come join the Squam Lakes Association, represented by LRCC members Paul and Nikka, for a family-friendly lunchtime hike through Belknap Woods! This hike is geared specifically towards family groups, but all ages and outdoor experience levels are welcome to join as we stroll along 2 miles of easy woodland trails. Pack along a lunch as we will be stopping to eat around noon, and be sure to dress appropriately for the weather!

Evening Astronomy: The Milky Way at Prescott Farm March 2nd

Let's Go Ice Fishing at Squam Lakes Associaiton March 3rd

The SLA is excited to partner with NH Fish and Game(link is external) for this ice fishing program! The Let’s Go Fishing(link is external) programs provides free family friendly educational fishing programs. Ice fishing is a recreational activity the whole family can enjoy. This introductory course will cover tip ups and other ice fishing equipment, ice safety, knot tying, fish identification, ethics, rules and regulations, and basic winter ecology.

Participants will be provided with all of the tackle, gear and bait for a great day out on the ice. All registered participants will also be exempt from holding a fishing license while taking part in this educational program.

Registration is required. Space is limited to 15 people.

Snowshoe Yoga at Prescott Farm March 5th

Tap Into Maple at Prescott Farms March 5th

Experience a New England tradition that predates New England—making maple syrup! From tapping a tree to tasting delicious maple syrup, you will take an inside look into every step of the syrup making process. Our naturalists will help you identify maple trees, learn the parts of the tree and their functions, find a tree to tap, learn the history of maple sugaring, and enjoy the sweet aroma of boiling sap.

Cost: $12 (Free for Members)

Recommended Ages: Multigenerational

Michelangelo Snow! at Squam Lakes Association March 5th

Join the SLA for an afternoon of snow sculpting! Bring the whole family for fun building snow castles, turtles, snow angels, or whatever sparks your imagination! We’ll have hot cocoa and hot water for tea, and fun spray bottles to “paint” the snow any color you like. We hope to see you there! All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Bigfoot Adventure Walk March 5th

Saturday 5:30-7pm | Waterville Valley Recreation Department | 11 Noon Peak Rd., Waterville Valley

Waterville Valley’s Bigfoot Adventure Walk teaches children about the area and wildlife while they embark on a nature walk in search of Bigfoot. The adventure walk activity is approximately 90 minutes long, beginning and ending at the Waterville Valley Recreation Dept. This fun-filled activity is available to children ages 5 -12 years old. Parents are welcome to join or leave the tracking to the little ones while they go grab an appetizer at a local restaurant. The Adventure walk is outside. Please wear suitable clothes and footwear for winter weather. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED

Dates: Every Saturday in December, January & February

*Group will be capped at 15 kids. If the 5:30pm group fills up, we will host another Big Foot Walk at 7:30pm. We will ONLY host 7:30 Big Foot Walk if 5:30pm group fills up first.

Cost: Children: $10/ Parents: Free

Ages: This walk is appropriate for children ages 5-12. Children 9 and under must be accompanied by an adult. We do walk in the snow in the dark with flashlights while our guide fearlessly leads the way.

Wild Winter Walk at Squam Lakes Natural Science Center March 5th

Saturday 10-11:30am | Squam Lake Science Center | 23 Science Center Rd, Holderness

Squam Lakes Natural Science Center offers a winter program for adults and families with children ages 6 and up. Learn about the animals who live at the Science Center during the winter. Most of them stay in the same place, just as they would in the wild. A staff naturalist will lead a guided walk on the live animal exhibit trail to see the animal ambassadors dressed in their winter coats and discuss how these native animals are well adapted for winter in New Hampshire. If needed, snowshoes are available at no extra cost or participants can bring their own. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This program is all outdoors. Dress to be outdoors with insulated snow boots, hats, gloves, and warm layers. Pre-registration is required for all programs at www.nhnature.org.

Cost: $9/member; $11/non-member

Ages 6 and up
