Lake Life Local Events January 9th - January 15th

Movie Night "Ratatouille" at Hermit Woods January 10th

Tuesday 6:30pm - 8:30pm | The Loft at Hermit Woods Winery and Deli | 72 Main St, Meredith

Enjoy a light bite from our Deli, a glass of wine or beer, and a bag of popcorn while you enjoy the feature presentation on our 12' big screen and professional sound system. (while the popcorn is complimentary, a suggested donation will help support the Interlakes Theater Company). A rat named Remy dreams of becoming a great French chef despite his family’s wishes and the obvious problem of being a rat in a decidedly rodent-phobic profession. When fate places Remy in the sewers of Paris, he finds himself ideally situated beneath a restaurant made famous by his culinary hero, Auguste Gusteau. Despite the apparent dangers of being an unlikely, and certainly unwanted, visitor in the kitchen of a fine French restaurant, Remy’s passion for cooking soon sets into motion a hilarious and exciting rat race that turns the culinary world of Paris upside down.

A Chili Climb Up Cotton January 11th

Wednesday 9am - 2pm | Cotton Mountain Trailhead NH-113 Holderness, NH 03245

Cold weather climbers rejoice, for another guided hike from the Squam Lakes Association draws nigh! Come join Lakes Region Conservation Corps members Alexa and Virginia as they take a treacherous trek up the steep slopes of Cotton Mountain, enjoy a warm chili lunch, and loop around along pleasant, wooded trails, maybe even checking out an old graveyard along the way!  Be warned that the hike will be a bit difficult in the initial ascent, which is 0.7 miles up a steep trail, but we’ll be sure to work in plenty of breaks as needed. After reviving ourselves at the summit and taking in the views, we’ll continue on to the summit of Livermore for a lunch break, and then descend via the Prescott trail and take the gentle slopes of Old Highway back down to NH-113, where it is a quarter-mile roadwalk back to the parking area. In total, this loop is about 3.5 miles in distance. Timing is flexible and may take a little longer than planned (or be shorter) depending on weather conditions and pace of the group. What to Bring: Pack plenty of water and a lunch (preferably a warm one! Like a nice thermos of soup or chili!). Participants should have appropriate attire and layering for winter hiking, extra layers, and comfortable water-resistant hiking shoes, as well as snowshoes and/or microspikes depending on conditions. The SLA can provide snowshoes & microspikes for up to six participants.
