One of New Hampshireβs most unique winter traditions is back! The Alton Bay Ice Runway (Runway 01/19) officially kicked off the 2026 season on January 31 with 82 aircraft landings on opening day alone β including pilots traveling from as far as Rhode Island and Pennsylvania.
Located on the frozen surface of Lake Winnipesaukee, this remarkable 2,600-foot-long, 100-foot-wide runway is carefully maintained by the NH Department of Transportation and operates only when ice thickness exceeds 20 inches for safety. Both ski-equipped and conventional aircraft are welcome.

β’ Season length varies (usually 4β8 weeks)
β’ Day-to-day operations based on ice and temperature conditions
